Plantation Teak when Only the Best will do
Andaman is the real thing. Genuine Teak but sourced from FSC plantations throughout Indonesia and Thailand. For centuries we have worked in the Teak market and it has only been through those long relationships that we have been successful at navigating the plantation Teak market. Quality is often suspect and grading very non standard. We worked closely with many mills to develop a grade that would be acceptable to our current Teak customers used to genuine Teak and have been very impressed with the quality of the Teak. More importantly the line of sight into the supply chain makes us feel comfortable not just about the environmental sustainability but the production sustainability so we can provide this material to our customers for years to come. We finish the Teak with just enough pigment to even out the color variations but still let that genuine Teak color come through. But it was important that we don’t add to much color so the natural grain and mineral lines of real Teak will be present.
Teak has long been a boat builder’s staple and that requires wide widths and often very long boards. The drawbacks with plantation and non Myanmar Teak has been the lack of width and length in the boards. For the home builder these limitations aren’t as present and we are really excited about the quality and character of this FSC plantation material.
